I just bought XBox Live today for use with RTCW (although I'm used to the PC's Enemy Territory version of RTCW and have no idea how to play the new maps).

But the kit came with a near-full version of a Live-enabled Tetris game. It was absolutely spectacular: at most a 0.5 sec lag between speech and the quality was a bit better than phone. Best of all, XBox Live requires broadband and initial payment so the cursing kids were nowhere to be found

    Yes, how ironic?

The voice chat alone was worth it. The games that came with it are good, too.

Problem is the service that comes with it expires after a year, and MS hasn't disclosed the monthly pricing scheme. I bet it'll screw me, though, so I'll likely be cancelling. Apparently they do sell the XBox itself at a significant loss and reap the benefits by charing $50 for games, the DVD kit, extra controllers, a link cable (really a crossover ethernet cable ), etc.

That was when they first manufactured it.. in the meantime hardware has excelled again (as computer parts usually do) so I'd bet their cost for making it is at least 1/2 of what it started at...

True, but when the XBox first came out it was $300 IIRC...I got mine for $180 as you still can in any major retail store.

They have released the pricing. It's gonna be something like 30-40 for new service, 20 for the mic. Not too bad considering...

Filburt, what's your XBOX Live Name? Mine's TWEAKY. Mainly only play MechAssault

BTW, if you want, we can play Tetris Worlds...that's the only Live game I have other than Wolfenstein.
