Hey people! i'm new here, and new to web design. I'm a student looking to go into something related to computers, not sure where i want to go with that yet, but right now i'm working on learning web design. I have one problem though, how do i learn if i don't have a website to build? If someone would like to take the time to give me an assignment for a basic website for a small business or something, i would be much obliged.

Do you mean bring you on as a student to do work, or do you mean "think of an assignment for you to do"?

If you mean help someone with a work project when you say " bring you on as a student to do work", i would be happy to do the basic grunt work but i don't have much of a skill set yet. I originally meant you would give me an imaginary or real small business that needs a web site and i would make it.

Here you go, how about designing a gaming clan website and see what you come up with. I would start off by looking at other gaming clan websites and get an idea and feel of the look of the sites in this genre and design the graphics in PS or Gimp and then code the site.

Another thing you could do is take something you're interested in and build a site around it, promote it, do the whole 9 yards. I started with a humor site (my own twisted sense of it). Became incredibly popular, got me my first client, and then I had to shut it down because a religious fundamentalist group didn't like the fact that I had a Y2K-compliant religion page (this was back in 1999).

I would have loved to have seen that!

Not a bad idea either. Gaming is something i do so the BF3 Clan site isn't a bad idea. And thats hilarious! Pretty sad it had to be taken down though. Theres always gonna be haters i guess.
