So... I approached a fishery whose web site needed revamping. Its was realllllly bad. So bad that i know people that didnt fish the lakes because their web site was rubbish and didnt show off its glory.

So they agreed to let me show them a design, they loved it and responded with.

"Its winter now and we dont earn a lot over this time of the year so we will be in touch with you early march"

Ive been away for a few months with work and a friend of a friend wants me to build them a web site for their martial arts school. Brilliant!

I take a quick look on the off chance at the fisherys web site just to see if its still the same. I fell off my chair with laughter because they had taken my nice fresh design and put their own mess on it lol

If you look closely (you dont have too) you might be able to spot their version of a CSS drop down menu lol

Oh and by the way i might of laughed at first but I am hacked off with how they copied my design! :banghead: I didnt give them it i showed them it on my laptop and they must of memorized it. Damn its wound me up!

    Thanks for reading, rant over

That's the reason I have a dedicated site for doing demo's on, and I use IP restrictions that limit who can connect and view the site, as well as restricting to just web browsers. If IP restrictions are not an option for you, a simple session password will also keep clients from downloading or copying code.

I must admit I showed him it and he just remembered what id done and went away and tried to re construct it. You have to admit his attempt is worth a massive lol I even told him his pictures were old and out dated and that id have to take loads of new ones.

Ah well, businesses are doing their best to save money and build their own web sites.

Wow how sad, but comical at the same time, I guess equaling PATHETIC. Now their site looks even more crappy because they raped your original design.

Best thing is the drop down menu they have done, it makes me laugh everytime i see it. But I just noticed his rounded text boxes are actually images lol Trying to copy my very simple css boxes lol

It shows the extent people will go though to try and save money on their business website, truth is it would put me off seeing that lol Oh and it doesnt sit right on an iphone or android.

But gd luck to them lol

I guess the laugh is on them - the site looks very amateurish - like it was done back in the '90's. None of the links seem to be working except for the home page and the contact page.

LOL, the "drop down" links all give me a 404 error. :giggle:

Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks.
But of course, if you dig deeper, itís really how it works.

You posted that site here a couple times already, I remember seeing it and it was good.

About the only thing they copied was the "concept", and in all honesty, its kinda hard to protect against.

And if they are gonna do that, you probably don't want them as a client.

I'd be curious as to how you approached them in the first place about the re-design. You know, when you first talked to them, how did you break it to them that their site was not that good ?

To be honest they was really nice as a client, its a family run business. They have a massive site and when I approached them I basically said Im a web designer and that id like to help promote their business. The guy was interested straight away and invited me to fish the lake for free! lol I did and showed them a couple of designs on my ipad. So what i showed him, he remembered and went away and tried to build very similar.

I cant remember posting it on here since i have put so much on here lol But as a rule i never give people links to my work because of the whole copying thing. But when we spoke by the lake all was very positive.

In fact im in the process of building one right now for a guy whos web site needs some love and attention and he is over the moon with what ive designed. So happy he is interested in me making him an online shop (ive never built one before) But all i showed him was a picture.

    thanks for reading
