    PC Sluggish

Was wondering if I could get some advice?

Within the last couple weeks my computer (Windows 8.1) has become slow at surfing and YouTube videos seem to pause way to often. I do updates whenever required and also scan for spyware. If I should remove extra baggage do not want to do the wrong thing so I am somewhat at a loss there. I ran quite a few test, but not sure what to compare to?

Here are one of my results. This test I ran through my ISP Comporium

Download Speed: 913 kbps (114.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 112 kbps (14 KB/sec transfer rate)
    Latency: 26 ms

That could be anything. It really could.

Your download speed isn't great, and if you're looking at any high-definition videos or anything beyond say 360p, it's probably going to need to buffer frequently.

You also need to remember that just because a test on your ISP says you get X speed doesn't always mean you get X speed. You can experience bottlenecks and slowdowns anywhere between your computer and youtube.com. So you may be getting say 800 Kbps or less from youtube.com, which may be enough.

I'd try upgrading your Internet connection before I worry about anything on the PC itself.

On the other hand, it could be a PC problem. This is why I wipe my OS and reinstall about every 6 months or so. As you install, uninstall, change or otherwise manipulate things...especially on Windows, your machine is going to slow down. GAME is right about your internet speed. It is pretty slow by today's standards, but if it's dropped significantly with no other change in your ISP, your computer may just be gunked up and in need of a fresh install.

Could be, but it's unlikely since "surfing" was specified.

dang I am running at 19mbps Download and 7.72mbps upload tested at Speedtest.net your speed seems really slow as it is. If you aren't installing programs like Ronald was speaking of then be mindful of what surfing you are doing as far as safe sites etc. I have had to help friends who's computers were all gunked up from visiting inappropriate sites and I have had other friends who clicked on pop ups unknowingly and got gunked up. Just need to be wise when browsing the world wide web lol..

On a side note I use Google Chrome and have ad blocker and Pop up blocker on and I went to a site that I usually go to on my PC, the other day on my Iphone and I couldn't believe all of the ads, and pop ups on it and I always recommend this site to friends and I never knew because I usually watch it on my PC with Google Chrome.

    Also, google:

how to speed up windows 8

and you should get some tips there. I use them and they seem to help.

Also, yes, your speed is kind of slow - you might want to upgrade.

You might be well ofcheck your memory amount and max. If it's less than 2 or 4, you might want to add some.
