filburt1 - just curious as to how much bandwidth your board consumes in a month? Also, Would you estimate the amount of bandwidth to be above average, average, or below average for a typical bulletin board?

I don't post behind-the-scenes stats like that publicly. It's hard to compare to other forums because of attachment sizes, post sizes, graphics, HTML, gzip, and everything else that wildly affects bandwidth.

I wasn't exactly looking for precise stats, just curious as to how much bandwidth a board like this uses. I plan on having a board at my site, and was trying to get an idea of how much bandwidth I'd be dealing with.

LOL...I didn't realize this was TOP-SECRET. Maybe you could post a reply that will self-destruct within 10 seconds.

I was also thinking of asking you what you pay for hosting, and what kind of a plan you have? Just trying to figure out what I need in a host or hosting plan. Is there a "What are you paying for hosting, and what's your plan" thread around here somewhere.

There's a Domain Names and Hosting forum here you can browse through, and ask any questions that haven't already been answered. Comparing a board you're about to start with WDF is a little unrealistic, because WDF is a very active board with over 3000 members. As your forum grows, you should be able to upgrade your plan with your host. But for starters, you should be able to go with a smaller plan.

I won't say how much this place costs, but if you search around the boards, you can find it. It's not much per month, but it's paid per year, so the payment is larger than you'd initially expect.

It's paid by donors, too, as are all WDF funds. A domain renewal is coming up, but I can cover that with the donations that I've been receiving.

Search around the boards....What should I search for? OR you could just tell me.

All I'm looking for is some ballpark figures. I'm just trying to get an idea of what kind of plan I should start out with based on bandwidth. I was looking at for example: http://www.veoweb.net/ and am not sure which plan would be a good starter. BTW: I have no plans at this point of going with this hosting company.....saw this posted in one of your other forums.

Maybe you could tell me who your host is, and what plan you are currently under. If you want send me a PM. Sorry if I rattled any ones cage with these questions on bandwidth and hosting.

I would go with any host that you like the look of and allows you to use a database. A forum is not going to reach its maximum bandwidth until a long, long time after it's inception so you'll have plenty of time to find out what you really need.

My host is Hosting Matters (http://www.hostmatters.com/). The plan and pricing (which hasn't changed for more than a year) is posted here. Hint: remember I said that donors pay for WDF
