Outsourcing web design and development work

What are the security risks involved in offshoring/outsourcing your web design and development tasks?

Well, I've had a glimpse of my dads experience outsourcing his website work to a guy in Nepal I think it was haha (we are in Australia) Paying peanuts but paying too much because of the run around, language barriers, time zone barriers and generally not on the same page, all just so he can be 'guaranteed' page one google rankings, which only for a short time does that eventuate. I don't get how it works though, the guy has ab Australian website and address but the work is done offshore? Same with another website that I had taken over for a friend, built by a local but the work was done offshore (some of the div ids were in polish lol)

Time, & communication. Due to communication issues, it makes it harder and longer.

@SMEnar, I agree that Time and Communication are critical issues that businesses generally face while outsourcing their work, especially while offshore outsourcing. But, I want to know regarding security issues/threats that businesses face while outsourcing their web design and development projects. If you know any such risks or possess any such experience then please share.
