Why use Excel when you can use something like Assembla or Freshdesk?

I'd get them to switch to something more appropriate. In the meantime, something like Conditional Formatting may help you.

    Conditional Formatting

If you don't know anything about Excel, though, it's going to be hard.

The learning curve isn't so high that you couldn't pick it up quickly. You could almost literally learn how to make some pretty impressive spreadsheets overnight.

Besides, they don't have to stop using Excel. You could convince them to buy into something specifically for task management. That, or if you're using Outlook for email, it has task management and tracking built in, provided your email server supports it.

Where would I learn how to make Excel spreadsheets overnight? Like I also need drop downs in my trackers with like red, green, yellow, orange, colors in the back of words like pass, fail, hand error, hang I'm sure it can't be hard to create.

    The usual places:
    Youtube
Search the thing you want to know how to do on Google
    Lynda.com

Plus, Microsoft has a pretty good albeit disorganized set of tutorials: https://support.office.com/en-za/art...rs=en-ZA&ad=ZA
