I think registering a generic domain simply because it's "premium" is either remarkably stupid or remarkably greedy. If you're going to build sites on all of those domains, then that's a different story...but somehow, I doubt that.

I have to assume its greed. This guy has posted lists of other domains. No way someone could possibly have a need for all of these domains. Supposedly he owns 140+ domains.

I had a client do something similar once...he registered "a lot of" domains (read: multiples of what this guy registered) because he got "a good deal on them", not realizing that the registrar was putting out a loss leader. So I 301ed them to his two primary sites and tracked to see which ones actually sent type-in or other traffic and which didn't. That way, we knew which ones were worth keeping and which weren't.

None were worth keeping...especially when the registrar doubled the price on the domains for renewal, which put the registrar in line with the likes of GoDaddy for pricing. This is why I didn't name the registrar...it wasn't their fault.

I don't mind them. I considered getting one myself. N if thats the game you want to play then so be it. I just have a different view on holding on to domains with no intentions other than making a profit.

Ive been in a position where the domain name that would work best with a project was bought and marked up like this. Its frustrating to see a domain you want with a huge price spike that is just sitting there. Thats how life works and I found an alternative but I will be honest it gives me resentment for the people who do it. Its personal, but nothing personal towards you.

My take is basically what Vapr_Arts' take is. There's no inherent value in a domain. It's not "virtual Real estate". It's just a name. At best, it's a penny stock. I don't resent anyone who does this as such, but I certainly don't give anyone respect for it either.

Now, if there's a website that has been built for that domain name and it has some unique content and/or features to give it some value, okay. I can even accept buying a domain and building a site to flip it as long as the site isn't some half-assed W*rdPr*ss blight full of unoriginal or brainless content written by some offshore twit hired on Fiverr. If you build something and it's useful and original and you get bought out, more power to you. If you buy a domain and hang onto it on the faint hope that someone will buy it off you, that's not something I'll ever get behind. It's not "investing". It's not "real estate". It's a few short steps away from cybersquatting.

Right now, all you're doing is blindly parroting Warrior Forum/Digital Point advice. "With no risk, there's no reward". With low risk, there's also no reward. You won't get it back in "parking alone", since few people are going to type in (your domain).xyz and among others Google has hated them for years. If you want reward from your domains, you're going to have to figure out something useful to do with them. With 145, that's very unlikely to happen.
