In a quest to get rid of a good portion of my spam, I've been setting up rules to have the spam forwarded to a spam folder (not actually deleted) in order to start sending emails to my host, allowing them to add it to their spam filters and apply a server-side solution for all of my clients.

In doing this, the attached found its way to the spam folder. Anyone else see the irony in it?

    A) get rid of your previe pane! that's where it's coming from! People add images like: <img src="http://mycrappywebpage.com/spamtrap.php?email=TheGAME@spamforever.com"> Which shows them your email is good, and you read it... meaning more spam.

Also... those are about 90% of my spam emails That or email marketing (same thign)

The preview pane isn't the problem, it's the HTML. If there was a way to completely deactivate HTML support in OE, it wouldn't be a problem.

I don't have a problem with getting the spam or viewing it in the preview because I'm trying to block it server-side (and preview pane makes it a bit easier to do what I want.) I just find it odd that a spam blocking software has to resort to spamming me.

Well.. sadly, it's just economical . $100 will get you something like a million emails. If only 100 people (.01%) look at it, you're making an excellent return on your investment. If three of those 100 people buy your product, you've earned your advertising budget. Compare spam to legit ways of advertising, and you'll find it's one of the most cost effective ways to go.

I'm thinking about using a white-list based ruleset instead of black-list. Because my black-list is growing way too fast LOL

Spamming is actually the BEST way to sell anti-spam software.... they're hitting their target-market that way (people who get spam email to valid addresses).

Pretty much anyone who reads the email is afflicted with spamitis... and the email presents a potential solution. I bet they sell a lot that way.

Whoever thought of the idea is certainly a marketing genius ;-)

I gave up on black lists ages ago... On my main account I still get at least 50+ spam a day. It's rediculous... really. Advertising is getting way too agressive.

I have a Hotmail account, and I only can recieve emails from people in my address book. I divert all other incoming emails to the JunK Mail folder, and see if they are any good before hitting the "empty folder" button. Surprisingly though, I get probably less that 5 spam emails per week, which is pretty good.
