    Question i was wondering...

Computers run off of little electromagnetic gates opening and closing, when the electricity going through the wire is on and off, respectively, right? If so, what is the point of having the gates at all? You could just have a wire and turn the electricity going through it on and off?

electricty aka the flow of electrons, usually through conductors like metal wires
computers do sensor or manipulation of these electrons, a basic one is on/off switch, look up transistors.

how would you turn off the flow of electrons without a gate?

Well the gate closes when the electricity is on, correct? So if the gate is open when the electricity is off and closed when it's on, whats the point of having the gate?
