If host is smart, they should know enough to block the range of IPs temporarily. If they aren't, tell them to read this: http://www.grc.com/dos/drdos.htm

My host went down just recently because of a DDoS attack as well. And the campus network has gone down twice, most recently yesterday, because students insist on opening and executing zipped files from people they dont know, which start these attacks. Makes me wanna execute my fist in their face...
spluf>> to be fair, I was friends with some people that ran our campus network last year (ResNet) and they shut down the network periodically (mostly to mess with people) but mostly to scan the network traffic for illegal file sharing. So it might be your ResNet doing it, not a DDoS attack...
