I'm considering getting one of those mice with a trackball in it - I'm wondering if anyone has one, and what your esperiences are with it?

I do a bunch of Photoshop etc but I am in no way a professional graphic artist. I am creative and try to get my designs perfect, but I have found the mouse a little tedious to work with. Is this trackball mouse going to help me, will it work? More importantly, do I need to buy one?

    Thanks,
    [Li] Brad

hmmm. .. . that's a start. But to really work in graphics/illustration you may want to think about getting a tablet and stylus by Wacom.

I have a tablet, but I dont get on very well with it,

What programs are best for these things? And what tools within those programs? I have photoshop but couldnt really find anything that good for it.

It is good though for what I can do with it.

    Cheers,
    Daniel.

My Tablet seems to work best in Paint lol. It might work within "Gimp", not sure...

Tablet's come into their own when you're after precision and working in close detail and/or free hand. Other than that a normal mouse works fine.

As for a trackball they're not that much different tbh.

I hate track balls, for a couple of reasons.

    1. they are very hard to get used to, controling the pointer using the ball is a pain.

    2. they need special drivers, as opposed to regular mice. It might not matter that much, but a friend of mine had to use two pointing devices a regular mouse and a track ball depending upon whether he was booting into linux or windows.

Thanks for your info everyone, I have decided not to get a trackball and I am still undecided about getting a tablet.

Trackballs should be driver-free provided that they are standard PS/2/USB devices.

A tablet is the ultimate for precision in Photoshop.
