i recently got a 15.4" notebook and i find that some websites [mostly personal blogs] seem to look funny. the text appears thicker, as if they have shadows. my friend's website looks like that on mine but looks fine on his own. his text is supposed to be white. help!

It looks like the sites are mixing DirectX filters in web pages along with ClearType: a combination which makes some fairly hideous results.

There isn't much you can do, other than demand that they become XHTML and CSS-compliant.

    Are you using WinXP?

If yes, try switch the "ClearType" back to "Standard" for screen fonts.
go "Display Properties"-->"Appearance"-->"Effects"-->"Use the following method to smooth..."-->choose "Standard".

It's not really a solution...ClearType makes fonts look much better on both LCDs and CRTs. Turning it off gets rid of the strong antialiasing.
