Its a whopping 273MB download, with heaps of security fixes.

    You can get it here:

In particular, I'm interested in whether they've fixed PNG support in Internet Explorer. If they have, we might be able to use proper PNG transparency in 6 months or so.

I haven't...a beta for bugfixes is ironic in my mind.

I use Firefox exclusively now so I wouldn't care about PNG support in IE

I'd say more "moronic" than "ironic". Especially at 273 Mb LOL.

273 Mb for what exactly? Windows seem to think everyoine has the time to download that much, even people on 56k connections!?!?!

I have downloaded and installed it on a test machine.

It changes quite a bit of the core installation and integrates various security features into the control panel (firewall, updates and antivirus - although it only recognises a handful of AV apps).

As usual it's a load of patches and fixes for previous security and stability issues but not much else. If you're on broadband you might want to give it a go, otherwise just sticking to the critical updates will do the important stuff.

Attached is a screenshot of the security CP.

Yes... it sound funny for me to. If it's a beta, it will have more new bugs than bugfixes.
I also am with Firefox, but as there still a lot of people that use the crappy IE, we can't use PNG too much. Maybe some day FF becomes main-stream...

I've almost downloaded SP2, and I'll attach a PNG test file later...

Fork: I'm a firefox officionado (spelling?) also, but v0.8 seems to be buggy, mostly in the addons though.

I'll wait a bit later 'till it goes full release... I hope it fixes XP Home memory handling issues I've seen with quite a few machines with the SP1 installed. But that's doubtfull knowing microsoft.

I have downloaded it, I am not using Security Center and sticking with Zone Alarm Pro and my default settings. My Windows XP is optimized to the max, so it runs pretty fast. I did recognize a speed increase after the installation of SP2, but not able to track down why.

I've just installed it. No it doesn't support PNG properly. Oh well. Attached is my test file and image.

Things are a bit odd. It doesn't recognise my virus-scanner, but it's McAfee 7.
I'm using the inbuilt firewall, but it didn't ask me to grant FireFox or Opera or access.
And I thought it would break Java, because it dynamically generates code, but I guess my processor is too low spec (1.3GHz Athlon).

Anyway, we'll see how it goes.
