Can someone briefly explain the fundamental steps when using templates...i'll show u the steps i used that failed and u correct me...here we go

    1. Made index.html
    2. Made index.dwt (template)
    3. Duplicate and rename index.html to news.html
    4. repeat for all pages

    5. Then i changed the template but the rest of the pages didn't update.

    Anyone help me out?

All regions of a template by default are non editable. In otherwords the areas of the pages based on that template cannot be changed, but will change if the template changes. So unless your whole document is set as an editable region move to the next paragraph.. otherwise make those changes first.

You then create a new document from your template. In DWMX you go to new document press the template tab and select your site, if any templates exist for that site they will be displayed here. Select the template you want to base the new document off of and there you go..

Now if you want to make changes to a non editable region for every page based on that template you just have to change the template. This explination is a bit loose so if you need more indepth help let me know.

    also...u say

"Now if you want to make changes to a non editable region for every page based on
that template you just have to change the template"

i didn't think it was possible to change a non-editable region in a template once it has been assigned the property "non-editable"

k i researched the problem with the nested template i mentioned in the last post

seems that i applied the template to itself and it was stuck in an odd loop...

i resolved the problem by detaching the template

Well whadda ya know...a little playing around can do the world of good.

I figured the template business out now, and it turns out after a template is saved it becomes editable and the web pages attached to the template become non-editable

everythings fine in that area now...iFrames :devious:
