I just read This article over at A List Apart, and I was wondering a few things - have any of you developed sites with PDAs in mind?
Can you use alternate CSS tags to format a page for a PDA? for example, it looks like a normal site for a desktop, and a PDA designed site on a PDA? Like how you can make a site Look different in IE than in Mozilla, using * html, that sort of thing.

I just ordered an Ipaq rx3115 Pocket PC, so I'll be browsing the net in class on that bad boy. I expect I'll make my wbsites PDA compliant if I can do so without affecting the waythey are viewed normally.

Anyhow, just curious to see what you all think/ know of the subject.

This exact site used to have a Pocket PC version.

Right now, WDF is coded in W3C compliance, so browsers such as Netfront on Palm OS render it properly for the most part.

To design for a PDA, be style-compliant (usually old styles, though). If you're designing for a specific PDA, use code specific to it (PPC 2000/2002 used a trimmed-down version of IE3).

You can detect the browser via its user-agent.

If you browse google on your PDA it redirects you to www.google.com/palm which is specially formatted to work on palm browsers.

I think a redirect like that is the best way... makes the most sense to me, anyhow.

I browse the net on my PDA, and it's really easy to read and such. layouts are a PITA, because of the low res, but it's still browsing.
