Is using Web safe colors still important? Are the statistics low enough on those not having a wider range of colors, that it isn't an issue anymore? What do you use?

The web-safe color palette is 216 colors. Most computers display 16777216 or more colors. For the most part, it is an obsolete palette.

And all this time I thought I was being a good Web Designer. Thanks for the input.

There is nothing wrong with using the 216 websafe colors. It just depends on your audience and how important it is that they have the ability to accuratly see the colors you want to use.. Usually its just an astetic issue and unimportant, but sometimes its crutial. Use your judgment. I found a good way to test out the effects of color substution on sites with high color depths is to either drop about 50 bucks(or less) on an old computer with fading monitor, or go down to your local libary, to view your site. Basicly, any computer that falls under 200mhz with win 95 or less and IE 4.0 or less will do.
