    hi there,

    Ive got my isp webspace, and i want a simple website up so i can share files with my girlfriend while she is away. I've passworded it using the .htaccess and .htpasswd files but thats it
    I would like somthing like a website that lists all the files that are up there, so she can download them. Will mostly be music and pictures. I cant do any of this stuff, so i need complete instruction, any help is much appreciated.

    or u can use internet explorer ftp://(your hosts ip adress here) that would look just like opening a directory in windows
    if you want to use ftp you could go to download.com and type leech ftp in thier search field the first option should be leech ftp 1.3 its very good once you learn how to use it

    Did you put a file in your directory called "index.html" or
    "index.htm"?

    If you did, try removing it. With no "index.html", the browser
    will display the directory contents. She can open and/or download
    any of them.

    You can forget the .htaccess stuff and just create a normal directory
    with a strange name that only SHE knows. Nobody else would be able to
    find it or figure out that it's even there.

    The answer to your question:

    You'll need to create a server-side script with PHP or Perl.
    That script will display a log-in for her and a file-handling
    function that she can access from any PC anywhere ... no
    special knowledge required. If you can't script yourself, you'll
    have to find someone that can.
