I've dabbled in building websites and had some luck so far, but when it comes to creating my own site I always seem to get stumped.

Below are some of the site I have done.

    Brutal Offroad

    Texas4x4.org

    Lynnes Learning Loft

and this one I have just gotten started on

    Midnight

I want my site to be simple yet easy on the eyes and pleasing to look at. I am fairly adept at HTML and working my way through php, flash, and photoshop as well as some others.

I remember that thread ... and I STILL have the same exact problem as you.

I think it all comes down to the fact that you KNOW how the page was
created, layed out, etc. Someone who doesn't know how easy it is to
make a webpage thinks it looks wonderful and great. But I know what
went into it, and therefore, have disappointment and feel as though I
could always make it better, more professional, etc.

When you know how a magic trick is performed, it's not exciting anymore.

    Your Midnight 4-Wheeler page ...
I've used the CSS templates from Texas Web Designs before, they are pretty nice layouts. I took one and whacked away at it for a while -- you'll see the basic template if you look:

    ".... part of DW"

That's interesting, that means they didn't create it themselves either.
I should get DW. People seem to have so much fun with it.

Seems to me you have done pretty well without it. I like DW a lot.

I just started using Illustrator today... that's a cool program
