Well I'm thinking Punk, Retro, Half-Tone patterns, 2 tone vector-like illustations, all things flamboyant and corny.

As I was born exactly 20 years before you, I have a pretty vivid recollection of the 80's.

The 60's were very innovative, produced a tremendous amount of new styles in music, and carried a lot of optimism and musical creativity.

The 70's were more depressed and disillusioned. The day of the hippies, drugs, flower-power and love, started fading away and giving way to punk and depression. The seventies were depressive, uncompromisingly tasteless, raw and honest. Different styles of music started branching away from each other (where as in the 60's they inspired each other), and the division between different styles grew deeper. (Disco was born and died towards the end of the 70's, though the name lingers on, as it became synonymous with nightclubs, informal "background noise" in places where "boys meet girls".)

The 80's were the decade of 'glam rock'. It was not raw and honest as it had been in the 70's, but more commercialized and facade-focusing. Just take a look at George Michael in that era.

If you study some of the 80's videos shown on VH1, you'll get the general idea relating to costumes, colors and appearance.

"New Wave" was one of the strongest images of 80's music, certainly in the UK if not globally.

    Don't forget neon writing!
