Not sure what you're after here.

If you mean the SQL syntax itself, it follows the SQL92 standard and should hence be familiar to you if you're used to other SQL engines.

If this is all new to you, you should buy a beginners book, as online tutorials tend to be problem specific, and not very good with regard to general understanding.

It says something about needing a MySQL database in order to install. So i was wondering if anyone knew about it.

Your host must support MySQL, which virtually all hosts do.

A database contains tables. A table contains a set of columns with defined names and restrictions on that values can be in the rows (the data) of that table.

vBulletin requires an entire database for its data as it uses something around 80 tables to store its data. It has to store users, permissions, calendar events, posts, threads, forums, templates, moderation queues, attachments, attachment extensions...and more that's not on the top of my head right now.

When you upload vBulletin to your web space there is an installation file you run. It will tell you what to do.

There are hundreds (thousands) of things that might go wrong!
(anything from your host not having MySQL installed, to you providing the wrong user/password combination, or forgetting to turn on your computer before trying to install VBulletin )

If you can provide the specific error message you're recieving, then those thousands of potential errors will instantly narrow down to a handful!

Ask your host for help about it then. There are multiple ways for it to be set up.
