First of all I want to thank everyone at Web Design. I've been looking for a site like for a long time. Thank you again.

I've been trying to do is set up a simple password protection to prevent access to a web page.
The example I'm using is from my LinkSys router and I have seem other sites use this popup to signon.

I know there are other ways of accomplishing this but I want to have this popup to occur when going to a certain web page.
It seems like its a javascript that uses an alert1()function.

the address to the example is here...

I have faith in everyone here!!
    thanks again

This is actually done by setting password protection through .htaccess files for Apache servers and AD/NT permissions for IIS servers.

If your host runs CPanel it's easy to do using the "Password Protect Directories" section.

Or, for page by page authentication, you could use PHP's (Apache required) built in PHP_AUTH constants. Read more:

thats what I want "page by page authentication".

I'm using just Apache/1.3.14 on my computer (os XP) and I have a web page at godaddy.com. so I'm not sure what to do to get started. So I need to install PHP? How and when do I call this function?
