    Hi all,
I could'nt find a forum specifically aimed for newbies so I thought this might be the best place to post.
The company I work for have now placed me in control of the website that was developed in Flash by a contractor. Already we require changes and although I have some website experience, Flash is proving to be somewhat difficult. For example one page has a list of several staff members, and I will need to add a new member. I have opened the .fla file and clicked on the 'cell' on the timeline that displays the list of staff. I tried to copy the last text but editing it actually edited the source. I have checked the properties for this control and it is a button, but when I add another button to the scene it looks completly different (more like a button rather then text) I'm guessing that this 'button' is actually text with the characteristics of a button. I have clicked the edit symbols button on the right of the scene 1 bar and it lists both Name1_txt and name_btn. I'm finding this confusing. Basically I would like to add another button for a new meber of staff.
As I mentioned before I have a firm understanding of HTML and I have even developed sites in DreamWeaver but Flash really has me confused. Any advice is welcomed.

    Mitch.......

Sounds to me like you really need to read the Macromedia Flash manual, and also it's a good idea to checkout the tutorials (Help > Lessons > 00 Introduction - 08 Animation). Flash is completely different from html, and as such you really need to know the basics before trying to build or update websites.

PS: updating other people's flash is a nightmare. There is no one right way of doing things in flash, and everyone has their own styles & preferred methods of doing things.

I used to work at a multimedia design company, and when I was asked to update one of the other designer's flash files, It would take me so much time that I could literally build the file from scratch in the same ammount of time!

I understand what you mean by that, i've felt the same way about other projects in the past. Anyway I spent a bit of time on it yesterday and managed to achieve what I set out to do. My problem was not using the Library to duplicate and change objects/symbols. Once I got the Library in view I was able to work through it.

    Thanks.
