If you buy your software with an academic discount can you later use that software for business after school?

If you're recieving an academic discount, my guess it that you are purchasing an academic license. An academic license is not supposed to be used for commercial purposes, so I would say technically yes, you would need to buy a regular license if you want to use the software to make money.

If you do buy it off eBay be sure that the description explicitly states that it's a shrink wrapped, the version you want (ex: "6.0 Professional"), and that it was never opened. That way you're sure that you're getting exactly what you want, especially not a pirated or previously used copy.
