    ok i am making a website where when you click on a link a pop up pops up with a flash game on it. I would like to have my link list in order of most popular at the top and i would like this is be automatically updated. Is this possible in script... Not Flash ! It needs to be script. You could use an "outward link counter" then spit it out of the the db in desc order

    did you go to the link i posted?

    if you did you would have seen the it stored the numbers of times the link as been clicked in a db.

    then ... all you have to do is get the info from the db (in descendant order) into your page

    You would need to user a server side language and SQL to interact with the database/table.

    Do you have access to a server language? Assuming your table is called hits, and you have PHP enabled..

    PHP Code:
    <?php
    mysql_query
    ("SELECT clicks FROM hits ORDER BY clicks DESC");
    ?>
    So the link with the most clicks would be the first extracted, and so on, and so forth.

Now im pretty smart with computers, But all this php backward link stuff is really twisting my brain. Has anyone got a very simple tutorial, Or even just able to explain to me what needs doing for this to happen ?

    I have created a small script for you.

    index.php: this file generates the links
    go.php updates the database depending on what link is clicked and then sends the user to the appropiate url.

    I also included the sql code to create the tables.

    See attached file.

    It would have been nice if you would have stated that in the second post ... after I've given you the links. I would have know then that you would've needed more help than just a link to the tutorial. :ermm:
