I want to post a seven minute AVI on my site.

The thing is, I want it to run as quickly as possible, and I know there are some sexy server-side software programs that allow you to plat video very efficiently on your site.

Can anyone recommend one to me?

Will these also compress and convert my AVI to Mpeg, or whatever format is supported.

What someone needs to do is write a good tutorial on preping your AVIs to play super fast. I'm having a hard time finding good information online.

I use flash.... It imports .mov files, but you can get all kinds of free file type conversion tools...

Speed isn't normally an issue if you are streaming the video as you are watching it...

But it does depend on the screen size and quality settings you want...

I've been converting all my clips to wmv format which holds up OK, but I was thinking of going across to flash for my video clips which means I could integrate all clips on my site into a custom video player front end.

Hagen, can you tell me what file sizes have been like for movies in flash?

It really depends on the quality and size of the screen area...

I suggest you import the files preview to see if the results are ok, then publish and actually see the file sizes...

The import is really friendly and is done in a kind of wizzard format...

You dont need to worry about the bespoke front end as this wont really change the download required...

It will probably take about an hour or so to get comfortable with all the settings then you will have a definitive answer, and will have learned how to do flash video!

    :-)

Looks like I'll set aside a couple hours of "play" time this weekend and see where I end up.
