I have "some" experience designing sites and using dreamweaver and frontpage. Can anyone tell me if there is a software package out there that will assist me in designing an ecommerce site that will allow people to order her candles and input credit cards securely. Or is it simply more complicated then that? Thanks in advance for your advice.

There is no "program" that I know of for it, but it can be done with php I know for sure and probably perl or any server-side scripting lanuage. There are most likely tutorials on the internet fo this, try http://www.pixel2life.com or http://www.goodphptutorials.com/ Im sure its there somewhere and if it isn't then i would google or yahoo it. I hoped this helped, if you need further asistance I could maybe work out a code for you in my spare time.

Have you considered incorporating PayPal? It's not free, but it's defintely secure, and you can incorprate a shopping cart as well. Plus, it's a lot less complicated than learning php.

There are some open source software options out there meaning of course that they are free. Here are a few:
    OsCommerce
    Agora Cart
    Zen Cart
There are others, so look around if none of these seem to work. For the most part, they are pretty huge programs with tons of options and may be a little too much for a site that just sells candles, but check them out.

As DCScene suggested, PayPal might be your best bet.

I would suggest OsCommerce. OsCommerce is a free script and there are several payment options already integrated in the script.
