    Hey guys,
I just finished up a quick web design job and the guy i havethe contract with mentioned getting my SSN for tax purposes. I've yet to learn much about taxes & freelance work, so I'm just wondering what you others do for such things. Is it cusotmary to give out your SSN for contractual work? Also, what should I do to make sure all my tax stuff is legit and in order. If you have any links to anything related it would be much appreciated.

I dont see any reason why they need that information. They should only be concerned about paying your rate. They dont need to get into any tax issues with you unless they are putting you on payroll.

Of course I am not an accountant and do not feel comfortable giving out tax advice, but here are some resources that might help you out.

You should never need to give out your SSN to clients, especially as a business. You should simply need to pay income tax, and the client should not be concerned with that aspect.

Having said that: ask an accountant to be sure.
