    Hello,
I'm new, so I'm sorry if I'm asking something that is unrealistic with simple tools.

I want to make an animation this way: basically a horizontal scroll of a long narrow still -- say, 100 pixels x 4000 pixels, scrolling left in a 100x100 pixel frame.

Entire thing should take about 30 sec and loop.

We tried it with Corel Painter, but it is too labor intensive and inflexible by so far -- meaning, you can't tinker nor adjust it once its made.

    Thank you!

So the visible image is actually 100 X 100 pixels?

Or is the visible image 4000 X 100 and the 100 pixel image is
moving across from right to left?

Can the image be .gif? You could make an animated gif.

    I'm sort of confused.

I think an animated gif would be WAY too huge of a filesize, especially for a photographic type of image...

You could do it in Flash with a really simple motion tween, and a 100x100 pixel mask (and actually, if you have the file's dimensions as 100x100 then you won't even need a mask, just have it pan from right to left).

You can also do it with Javascript, and you could probably find a script out there really easily. But I think Flash would be the easiest way.
    choosy developers choose gif!
