    Hey,

Does anyone have any idea about creating downloadable ringtones on a website? I have someone requesting that... But I'm not even sure how to get it onto the phone even if I post it on the website. Would I need to actually write the code to send the ringtone to the phone?

    Thx,
    H

Have you checked Google for premade scripts? Would you use SMS to send the ring tone?

Thanks for your reply. Hmmm, I don't know. I did find stuff about SMS when I searched. Is SMS the only way to go? The best way?

I didn't check Google premade scripts. I will check now...

Check out xingtone.com, you can create your own ringtone store there.

All of the download sites that I have looked at use ASP. If you have Firebug (a Firefox extension) you can look at how they have the downloads set up. The ones that I have looked at have the download set up as an "<a href.... >."

    Sorry I can't help more, I don't know ASP.

Hmmm, creating my own ringtone store won't really work... I need it to be only on this one website, ya know? Like, it can't be from any 3rd-party site.

I know that they do it in php/asp, but I just wish I knew how! I've seen the websites where you select your cell phone provider from the dropdown and send a ringtone to your cell phone. I just wish I knew how they do it! ARGH!

I would imagine if a phone's mobile browser could see the link and understand whatever MIME type a ringtone uses, then it should handle the rest.

Just speculation, but that's what MIME types are for.

Most phones have browsers, can mobiles use these browsers to download things on to their phone. If they can then perhaps this is the easiest way to do it.

But I've seen a website where you can upload a ringtone and select the cellphone company and put your phone number and send it. That is how I want it (only w/o the user uploading - the files will be on the website already).

    Like this: Free Ringtone Uploader

They were able to write the code, so I should be able to too!

But actually just now, while looking for that webpage, I came across this page, which talks about sending a ringtone as an email attachment. I don't know why I couldn't find this before! It says
Your phone's email address is obtained by combining your full 10 digits phone number with no hyphen(e.g. "5145551212"), the "@" and your cellular company's email extension, for instance "mobile.att.net" for AT&T Wireless.
... So I guess I just have to find out what each cell phone company's @-extension is, and then I can just use some php mail code that emails an attachment! I will try that.
