Hi guys I'm new to this site and I was wondering if anyone knows of any free templates for building a forum site. I have build a few websites with notepad because I find it better to code my own html, but I have never built a forum site. It would be greatly appreiciated if anyone can help me out with this and if I have to I will also work with forntpage if that is what the template is for.

Honestly, don't try to build a forum. Download a free one.

There are a lot of forums built for anyone's use. You may or may not know about server-side scripting, but that's required for making anything as complex as a forum, and it can take years to build from scratch. If all you want is a system to make threads and make posts, then just download a free one.

Google phpBB, vBulletin, Simple Machines Forums, or simply "Free Forum" and use the one you like the most. All of these are popular, and feature rich, with a large support community, which you wouldn't have if you developed your own forum. The three I mentioned can all be highly customized to match your site's own style with downloadable and customizable themes.

thanks for the help guys I really appricate it. Wow making a forum site is quit diffrent then making just a regular HTML site. I downloaded form simple machines and freeforums but most of those files have an extention of PHP and I can't open them. Can someone tell me how I can open this file and how I can edit this so I can view how my forum site will look like.

Notepad will open them just fine. You need a server that supports PHP however.

Or might not. Or am I? Yes, I am. WDF v6 clue number whatever.

Still, I encourage you to use a pre-packaged solution unless (a) you're getting paid to write it--I'm not, (b) you have no girlfriend--well such a project means I don't despite knowing girls who program (they exist!) and (c) you have many years of programming experience, not just with PHP but with many other languages (I do).

Use phpBB. The newest beta version has a semantic interface, too, unlike pretty much other forum engine out there, including vBulletin and WDF (v5, at least).
