I haven't been doing a lot of webdev work of late... so when it came time to fire up good 'ol Dreamweaver, I realized it is completely incompatible with Vista!

So I'm turning to you folks to help me out.

The things I used Dreamweaver that I would like to see in my new choice:

    • The autocomplete code editing feature
    • Listing my sites as projects
    • Support for PHP code
    • Cool buttons/shortcuts for my favourite tags - menu customizable if possible

I never use the WYSIWYG feature of Dreamweaver, or of any editor for that matter. I code all my CSS in Style Master, so all I need is a decent HTML/PHP editor that will look after my sites in neat little projects.

    Any suggestions?

Not sure about customisable menus, but Eclipse caters for the other points.

Also, it has support for lots of diverse languages.

Would I download the PDT (former PHP IDE)? Or is there a Web development build that caters for HTML/PHP/etc ?

One more reason why I haven't gone the Vista route yet!

Dreamweaver 9 works perfectly fine for me on Vista. I believe DW8 did as well (the current version).

When I develop PHP applications I use Eclipse with the PHP IDE plugin. There are also HTML/CSS/Javascript/etc. plugins available, but I find that Dreamweaver has a better code editor for HTML and CSS. Eclipse does a good job of PHP and Javascript.

Ok! I must of been sleeping under a rock for the past couple of weeks / months. The Adobe CS3 suite looks awesome!

Filburt, where did you get a demo or beta of Dreamweaver?

I'm a beta tester. I signed up maybe a year ago, and a few months after I signed up, I was invited to join.

"Adobe Dreamweaver CS3" is nearly identical to DW8. The only thing I can tell they added is more integration between other Adobe programs (not surprising given this is the first Adobe build of Dreamweaver) and Ajax stuff. The Ajax might sound good, but just like the rest of Dreamweaver, it encourages drag-and-drop and WYSIWYG editing, so the final output will be unsemantic garbage.
