Eclipse + the web tools plugin is great. Except when I'm my company's VPN, at which point the editor is excruciatingly slow. It takes almost a second for every character I type to actually appear in the editor. It's completely snappy and fast on my home LAN. Eclipse itself is idle (not building a PHP model or anything).

Ideas on how to speed it up? Unfortunately, copying the files to my local server and working off that is not an option.

768 kbps up, ~7 mbps down. A ping to the remote router is only 30 ms.

It's only Eclipse. For example, Dreamweaver is just fine.
