    Hello,

I'm begining to create a web site for a client that is a store. The website would be fairly simple. I just need to have it so a customer can order products into a shopping cart, but I would like to read up on the basics and beyond. So, does anyone know what a great tutorial book for helping with coding and setting up a store web site would be?

There is a lot of shopping cart available that would be a lot better than one person could write on their own

Cube Cart is good, Zen Cart is good, and OS Commerce are good. If your host has Fantistico installed, these are most likely included for a free install.

I've used CubeCart and it seems to work very well.
It has payment gateways for most popular credit card merchants.

Another resource to look at is the client themselves. If they already accept credit cards, most credit machine retailers offer a software or shopping cart.
Ask them to check with their credit card machine company to see if they do offer one.

I recently developed a site for a client and his cc company offered a free software and secure link for him to be able to add merch to his website.

Otherwise, I agree with going 3rd party integration. OS Commerce and CubeCart are both good recommendations.

    Good luck....
