Iv been trying to create a navbar with the buttons already on the background rather than inserting them over the top later, reason being is that I want to use an enmbossing effect in photoshop to make the buttons appear to be set into navbar.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way of inserting an invisible image or box behind the navbar which can be used to anchor the link to?

    Cheers

If you have a background image, you can place a fully transparent image over
the background (instead of behind it). That image is a 1 X 1 pixel that is white,
with the transparent color set to white ... then save as .gif

You then use that image and put the desired size and simply put over the background.

    Example, my 1 x 1 image is called "pixel.gif"

    <a href="http://www.google.com"><img src="pixel.gif" width="30" height="15" alt="" /></a>

    Option 2,
You use a normal image and "Map" it using HTML image mapping.

I sort of like the "pixel.gif" idea better because you could make alternate images
to create button effects using Javascripting.
