My name is Svea and I'm a web designer. Last month I started my own business and now I'm thinking about bartering my services. How do you feel about bartering? Has anybody done this?

    I've done it several times.

The experience for me has been like this ...
I feel that I've gotten the better part of the deal,
and the other person has felt like they got the better part of the deal.

    So I guess it's a win-win situation.

I do think it works best as a "service" to "service" trade.
Example, if you were to design a website for a dentist, and the
dentist in return does some fillings for you (or family).

Services, instead of tangible goods, seems to have more of an
impact because a person's skill and expertise cannot be compared
the same as the price of an object.

You should try it once with someone and see how it goes.

When you choose bartering it is not necessary for you to pay - so you can save your money and at the same time get one more opportunity to achieve a success in your business. I consider bartering to be a profitable thing.
