Hi, I am creating a standard gallery site with hundreds of images...that is not a problem(btw what other software besides Fireworks generates galleries), but I need for every thumbnail to act like this when you mouseover or click on the thumbnail-
    http://www.dynamicdrive.com/style/cs...-image-viewer/

how do I do that without manually putting the code for every single image?

Is there some way to automatically generate gallery with this feature?

Using PHP and MySQL for a database.
Images are stored in a directory, but the database
contains the filename, title, description, gallery number, etc. for all images.
You then have an admin section to add, delete, edit images.

A PHP script dynamically builds the web pages on-the-fly using the database.
You have 1 script that renders any gallery page you want. You won't have to
do any HTML editing of pages.

The PHP script can also use the exact Javascripting you showed us in your example.

If you don't know anything about PHP or MySQL, you might want to hire a programmer.

Sadly, I don't know anything about PHP and MySQL, I figured someone made some kind of generator to do this...

    Eron ...

If you were not concerned about a "title" or "caption" on the photo,
PHP could be used to generate the gallery without a database (MySQL).
    And it's fairly easy.

The problem is when you want to also have a caption or other information
about the photo. You need to have some way to match the information
to the photo ... that's what a database does.

How important is it to have the photo captions?

Actually I already got a gallery generator that makes the captions from the name of the files(when you mouse over it), which is extremely efficient. So, yeah, something like that would be nice.

I found this so check it out-

I think it does what I needed but I have to check the scope of it.

Your javascript idea is worth a shot.

If you need to have captions for the photos, you can't
use PHP without some sort of database (text flat-file or MySQL).

I presume if I want a search function where people would type in the name of the image and it would pop up, I would have to use PHP and MySQL....do you have any links on tutorials for beginners for that?

And what would be the easiest way to do that?

unfortunately it wont be easy, thats why pre-made scripts are all over the net. the suggestion by Ml about php mysql is the best solution for this.

    while($get_it !== true){ continue; }

    http://www.ornj.net/webalbum/

This is the gallery generator that automatically transfers the names of the files as captions for the pictures leaving out the extensions of the files.
How does it do that? I really need to know this...
