Can I start a website counter at something larger than 1, possible at 1,000?

If not, how do I hide a website counter until it goes higher? After it goes higher, can I then make it visible without losing its existing Count?

depends on the counter. some people that offers counters to use on your site offer you the ability to start wherever you want... ( those are usually ad based counters )...

Not sure why you would want one as they are pretty useless...

If you know some scripting language like PHP, or ASP you can write your own counter and start it wherever you want.

Just use Google Analytics to monitor the site. You'll have all the stats you want/need, and no one else can see it.

As well as google analytics there's Statcounter.com - that will monitor the page hits and all sorts of other useful info invisibly, and if you want to you can put a visible counter on the page when you feel your hits have gotten high enough. But visible counters are a bit dated - best to keep all that behind the scenes.

Everyone knows you can make the number anything you want, so it becomes useless.
