I picked up a book entitled "Creating Web Pages Simplified" Any other suggestions of good web design books for a graphic designer?

DIG-WP gives you all the of the info needed to keep your site secure and optimized.
RockablePress - is more focused on designing (for me at least). The book comes with a load of examples for real world practice on web design.

Sorry, I thought you were looking into making dynamic websites that you can update on the fly. I was blown away by the new site Area 17 made with WP.

that is usually based on your connection, equipment and ISP. I rarely have that problem, try clearing your cache.

Really slow first time load on that site. Very cool though! Good use of WP, would be pretty easy to recreate.

The book thing, I have so many web design books and they're all have similar stuff in them. You may want to consider some Javascript/jQuery/Mootools books. For Javascript, the best I've actually read is the for dummies book! It's pretty detailed, even has regexp cheat sheets and stuff.

But then again this is web design, and the most you'll learn for it will be found on the web.
