How can i have a page on my website that has a link on it with a download. But the user cannot go back to that page by just entering that same URL of that directory? They can only access it via a link or button or been redirected?

You would need password protection, or something that creates one time links.

Enforcefx, I'm not sure why you would want to do this. But since I want to be a contributing member of this community, I did a little digging. This link has a tutorial which I think might suit your needs. It allows you to password protect your website. http://css-tricks.com/825-easily-pas...-subdirectory/

This link also shows how to redirect the visitor to another page within your site, or to an entirely external site. http://www.webworkshop.net/auto-redi...g_methods.html

You'll have to let us in on why you want to do this as there may be something you're motivated by that we're just not aware of.

If you use a DB on the backend, you could create a variable that could be used in a link, or a button link, or email... pretty much anywhere... once the link with the variable has been accessed, disable the variable...

this would give you control of who can access the particular file and also let you keep track of how many downloads of a particular file...

That seems complicated but Im sure it can be done. I see some very good responses above :-)
