    Just recently google updated their map for one if the properties I manage. You can view it at http://maps.google.com/maps?q=kolea&...h&vpsrc=6&z=18

    I have a custom made map that you can view at www.waikoloavacationrentals.com/kolea-rentals/ at the bottom. I would like to take the google map and give it the same functionality as map I currently have. The issue I am running into is that I can not figure out how you can put the number on the buildind and make it to where it is directly clickable to a page on the site.

    Is what I am trying to do possible?

    I don't think google would let you customize their maps...

    Yeah, that is where I had looked. The issue I had with that was that you could put icons on the map, but when you clicked on them it had a popup (the white box) that you could put a url/etc in. I wanted that when you click on it, it goes straight to the web site.

    Those are personal though, not everyone get to see it, unless you share. I guess guess it depends on how OP wants to share them.

    Remember some time ago I helped you with this ...
    I wasn't able to offer a good solution ... You settled with a mapped image.

    Since then, Google Maps V3 has been introduced.
    Now, you can display your own markers (PNG images) however you want.

    And now, I can redeem myself for giving you crappy results the last time I helped you.

    Unzip the attached file.
    1) You edit the "markers.xml" file, to change the URL (hot link) for each marker.
    2) Create your own markers (PNG images) and replace them in the markers directory.
    3) To adjust marker GPS locations, run the script called "gps.php". That will allow you
    to find the exact GPS locations. I discovered that I didn't carry out the GPS resolution
    far enough, so some markers are not in the center of the houses.
    4) Again, edit "markers.xml" file to make changes to the markers, or to add markers.
    5) Every time you edit "markers.xml", you need to view it with your browser and refresh.
    Your browser will always be caching the old xml version.

    You'll notice a lot of extra stuff in the XML file. I originally used this script
    with a "sidebar", listing the markers. That feature is still there, you just need
    to change the HTML as shown below.

    Here is my working version to see it with "generic markers":
    http://www.catpin.com/kolea

    I made a couple of my own PNG's ... #4 an #5 ... I'm no artist, but you can see that
    it's possible to use your own markers within a real Google Map.

    Here is the working version to capture GPS locations:
    http://www.catpin.com/kolea/gps.php

    If anyone wants a nice GPS finder, view the gps.php page
    and copy the source code. You'll see in the initialize section
    where the GPS location is defined when the map loads.
    Put in your own starting coordinates.

    Another idea ... unzip those files and edit them to create your own
    GeoCache maps. Dust-off your old handheld GPS locators and create a
    treasure map for others. GeoCaching is kinda fun.

    These are the changes to show the sidebar:
    Code:
    <table border="1">
          <tr>
            <td>
              <div id="map_canvas" style="width:790px; height: 500px"></div>
            </td>
            <td valign="top" style="width:150px; text-decoration: underline; color: #4444ff;">
              <div id="side_bar"></div>
            </td>
          </tr>
        </table>

    Nice.....yeah, that is cool that they came out with something that can do it. I am working on it right now. A couple questions I had:
    1) Is there a way to customize the zoom? The one you gave me is too zoomed in, but if you zoom out once it is too far out.
    2) How do I go back and take the labels off so that they do not show up in the beginning? I know I can just click the labels for myself, but so that users do not have to do that.

    Do you do any SOAP programming or build phone apps? I may have some other work for you.

    To remove labels ...

    Find this line:
    mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.HYBRID

    Change it to this:
    mapTypeId: google.maps.MapTypeId.SATELLITE

    =======================

    I haven't found any way to affect the zoom levels,
    It might be possible that feature may be added in the future.

    =======================

    And no, I don't do SOAP or phone apps.

    So I have my map all set at www.waikoloavacationrentals.com/kolea-rentals/map-test
    I just need to make the links. What I did do is make the map larger so I did not have to worry about the zooming.

    Here is my question. If you look at the map, it is too far to the right. How do I set it so that the property will show up in the center of the map every time?

    Thanks!

    For now, I wanted to have the map and there not be links to the pages from the numbers. I will change that in a few months. If you look at www.waikoloavacationrentals.com/kolea-rentals/map-test I took the link off of building 1, but it still links to a page if you click on it. Is there a way to avoid that?
