I am building my first website with dreamweaver and godaddy. I am trying to allow people to access a free download of my band's music from my site, but I want them to have to register their email or join a mailing list, so I have a database of people who have downloaded and listened to my band's songs. I currently just have the songs in a zip file on my godaddy account so if you just put in the url it will download, but I just want a prompt or page to come up making them send me their email address to access the download. Thanks for any help!

You're going to need more than just basics... Since you're using godaddy, go have a look at their 1 click applications, there should be a CMS or other pre built app that would allow you to setup the registration, user accounts, etc.

Otherwise you're going to need some php or asp ( scripting language ), a database to set this up.

You should probably re-read the TOS for godaddy, but if they delete the zip file, it's probably because it vioaltes their TOS. Unless you do what you are asking to do here. They really don't like big files dumped on their servers, with open accss for anyone to download.
