My business is called GeekQuad. I'm getting ready to buy a domain name for it. Geekquad.com is taken. Does anyone foresee an issue with geek-quad.com?

It all depends on what is already on the other site, if someone left out the dash, as many people do, where will your potential customers end up?

Just my opinion, but the dashes are not really a good thing for your domain name, you'd be better off ( in my opinion ), with a .net , .biz , .us (assuming you are us based)...

Even geekquad and the initials of the city or state you are located in, the .com is the most associated domain extension, especially to newcomers to the web.

Even if your main marketing efforts will be search engine related, and users will be clicking the links, returning traffic may type it in if it's memorable. I have 1 client that about 40% of their traffic monthly is direct, which means either they are typing it in or they have a bookmark.

Personally, I think there are a lot of other options to explore before going with a dash.

    Just my opinion.

All excellent points. I'm so glad I asked before I picked one. I don't want to use my city or state because I may not live here forever. Hmm. I'll mull it over some more. Thanks!
