I've just downloaded, installed, and played with themes on the newest version of wordpress. I'll admit it took a long while for me to set up a local server using xampp and uploading the wordpress stuff. I follow instructions very well and I understand things quickly once I'm shown how they work.
But I'm confused as hell by how to do certain things with wordpress. I'd like to know if I'm wasting my time. I like the layout of this site (I know the content is kind of silly but I stumbled accross it and like the "links at the top" type look, while the home page retains it's own FULL article content. I don't want the "read more" type thing that wordpress is currently giving me. The site is simple, and that is all I'm looking for. No video, no graphics, simply written content. Here is the example site.
Is wordpress going to be able to create something like that for me?

Sure, why not, that site is a wordpress 3.2.1 site, so it's just a matter of finding the right template or if you are the adventurous type, create your own template.

Search this site for wordpress template or custom wordpress and I bet you find all kinds of resources that will put you in the right direction for creating your own templates.

That theme is called Essence - it's fairly expensive - but you can get that look from any theme that has a right sidebar layout template included. Like this one

for an example you can go look at one of my demo sites built on thematic.
Good design should never say "Look at me!"
It should say "Look at this." ~ David Craib ~ my current site . . ~ my email

The "Like" link is at the bottom right of each post, along side the "reply" link. And if you are being helped here, try to help someone else - pass it on!
