    Many advanced designers use simple programs like notepad or notepad ++ , they are free.

    Some commercially available programs can cost hundreds if not thousands of dollars. And really don't help you "learn" to do much but click buttons and drag stuff around the screen.

    If you really want to learn , get a copy of notepad++ , then visit w3schools.com , and start learning the basics. They also have tutorials on intermediate and advanced languages, but the web is no different, you need to learn the basics and build on that from there.

    Also get FileZilla for free (see Google).
    That is what you'll use to transfer files back and forth between your computer and your website (FTP).
