    Hey all,

I'm no newbie when it comes to web stuff, I've been active in the web world for about 3 years now. That being said, I STILL struggle with design.

I am working on a mock-up for a potential client and I just feel like there is something that I'm not getting. I want the site to follow the current trends and, in my eyes, it's just not there.

So here's a pic of what I have so far. Any constructive criticism would be much appreciated.

Also, I don't have a legit copy of their logo yet, that's why that looks so crummy.

I think we need to see your site "for real". To me it looks OK. But how it
looks full-size, and how it resizes will be something we need to see. Also,
the other pages would be nice to see.

The other focus will be on the "back-end" scripting. Using PHP, Google Maps V3 API,
and other dynamic features. The "building" photo gallery will be important also.

Give us a link to the real website.

This is just what I have in Photoshop, I haven't yet started to turn it into HTML and CSS. It's going on Wordpress and my partner has the handle on all of the back-end things.

My issue is that whenever I try to design something and follow current web trends, I feel my design just looks pretentious.

I think it looks good, but how it is put together and rendered with WordPress ...
the whole thing is going to change. So, get it online and then re-ask the question.

Excellent resource, Smoseley! Thanks for sharing. I've been looking for something like this that is easy to use and understand. Especially when it comes to code validation.
