Does anyone know what this error is and how to fix it. In dreamweaver and error message keeps appearing saying there is an error on line 1 but all thats on line 1 is the code below which is on every page. Should I just ignore the error message?

    <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">

Is that all on one line? and is there one space between these two quotes ..EN" "http: ..
    See if that is true.
Otherwise, I see nothing wrong with it.

Check your validation settings, if you have it to auto validate based on HTML and don't have XHTML validation turned on, you'll probably get that message.

I'm using an old version of DW so don't know if the newer versions still have the option to auo validate based on different specs. I would guess they do...

Its one line which is line 1 of the code. It says 'syntax error on line 1 of page. Code hinting may not work until you fix the error.'
I think the problem is due to the fact that the page was made from a template. None of the other template pages have this problem. I tried making the page again and still got the error. Now whenever I try updating my pages from the template it won't work properly. Any ideas?
