The problem with answering this one ... how far back do you go?

If you look at: webpagesthatsuck.com, you find what I think is the worst one,
but it's no longer online. They did have a screenshot of it.

In my opinion, the worst site ever made ...

So, your question is sort of ambiguous.
Maybe if you narrow down your specifications?

To set my scope on major websites, I would say about.com is a clear winner. I seriously can't believe people still use that website.

See what I mean? Your question is ambiguous ...

Your definition of "worst websites" is about content and purpose.
My definition is about "design" and "development".

To me, about.com is designed and developed quite well, and it looks fairly nice and modern.
So the content is all about getting ad clicks ... that constitutes "worse", but not their design.

You could go a step deeper and discuss content. Perhaps some of the articles have good information.
I'm guessing it might contain 10% good information and the rest might be "so-so". But the underlying
premise of their site is to get search results directed toward them, and getting their ads viewed.
That's what they are really all about. Their content is a "side effect".

This might seem like an interesting topic to discuss, but it's too judgemental and personal to work.
It's very much like "what is the worst car ever made"? It cannot be answered.

I think about.com is bad design wise too because I can't find the content through all the ads.

    Hmm ...
    Design-wise, it's just like a WordPress site.
You have to sift through a bunch of ads, but that isn't a design issue, that's a content issue.
I still think their site is well designed. I guess we'll just have to disagree on that.

Would you be surprised to hear I think wordpress is disgusting too? There are better ways to hide ads.

What is it you find disgusting about WordPress?

Design is a funny word. Some people think design means how it looks.
But of course, if you dig deeper, itís really how it works.
