I want to make a pretty popup that tells IE users to switch to firefox.
    How would I do that?
    Thanks

You can wrap whatever you want in an IE conditional tag.

I meant to say conditional comments, not tags:

Don't. When you encourage people to switch to another browser, even when it's positive and it has benefits for the user, your attempt will usually be met with resistance and people leaving your site.

The smart move is to avoid it.

OK, well, I mean, I'm not going to prevent them from using my website. But I want to bother IE users
Please tell me how to do it.
I've already got my mind set on it, and you can't change my mind.
I'm either going to do a nice job with your help, or a ****** job without help :P
I'd prefer the first option quite seriously :P

If you want to bother IE users you might want to check your stats and see how many IE users visit your site. On the 100's of site we manage IE is still the dominant browser and we sure wouldn't rock the boat with them...and you might not want to either if it's a business site for you. You probably won't be bothering them, just running them off not to return to your site again.

Most views hate pop ups anyway and I'm one of them. If I go to a site to make a purchase and a pop up jumps in my face I move on to another site that doesn't have a pop up...lost income for the site that had a pop up jump in my face.

I'd set it up to place a cookie if they've seen the message before. If they have, it won't show until they use a different computer or clear their cookies.
I don't want to lose a ton of visitors, I just want to enlighten idiot users (IE users are idiots, sorry), and promote my firefox affiliate button/link because I want a free firefox t-shirt at some point :P

Well, just because you don't like IE doesn't mean millions more don't like IE.
I just ran the stats for 5 days on a corporate site we manage:
    IE users: 10, 262
    Chrome: 6,103
    Firefox: 2, 783

I use Seamoneky most of the time so I don't give a hoot what anyone else uses.
I'll say again...If i visit a site and a pop up jumps in my face I leave it and will never return so a cookie is useless for people like me..and at any given time during a day any of us could be on different computers since each person has 3 to 5 of them sitting on their desk in their office.

I'm not trying to beat you up now, just telling you mine and millions more thoughts on pop ups.

Probably be better for you to buy the t-shirt :giggle:
