On many websites on the front page, I see a series of "news" entries in the content portion of the page, usually with a link to comment etc. (essentially like a blog integrated into the page). Towards the bottom there is usually a page 1, 2, 3... and so forth for older entries.

How is this typically accomplished? I'd like to be able to have current events continuously update-able from the back end, and have them displayed on the front page.

This is actually so common that it's absurd that I can't seem to come up with an answer from Google, lol.

Any info, particularly detailed replies or links to tutorials would be well appreciated. Thanks.

Depending on your host, it's either php, asp or asp.net utilizing a database and simpli queries.

The setup a pagination script ( many premade news scripts have that built in ), if you're not familiar with an of the scripting languages, you can find some in hotscripts.com to use or see how others are doing it.

If your host doesnt support databases, I've seen some that use flat files ( simple text files ), to store the news articles in.

What Webzarus said. It's typically a database and some very simple queries. I have one I've used for clients in the past that consists of one page on the site and three in the admin. But it's my own concoction.

A lot of sites are CMS based ... like WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, etc.
You could install a wordpress site and you would have all of those features.

Yeah, have someone install and integrate Wordpress onto your homepage. This will give you a lot of options for your homepage, allow you to create new posts that will appear at the top, allow others to comment on your posts (if you want), etc - You don't have to have your entire website ran by Wordpress though. You can simply install Wordpress, and integrate it solely on your homepage where you're wanting to do this.
